White Sands International Film Festival to Offer Weekend of Films and Workshops
Las Cruces, N.M. – This week the 6th Annual White Sands Film Festival will kick off with a full schedule of films and workshops.
The festival is set to launch with the premiere of the feature film “Refuge” on Thursday, Aug. 25. Refuge was written by Tony Award Winner and Las Cruces resident Mark Medoff. The film stars Linda Hamilton (Terminator, Terminator 2), Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore, Thelma and Louise) and Chris Payne Gilbert (CSI: Miami, The Shield).
A private VIP reception will follow the opening night screening of Refuge willallow attendees the opportunity to meet Medoff, Hamilton, McDonald and the film’s producers.
Veteran film actor Val Kilmer will also be at the film festival to receive the WSIFF Lifetime Achievement Award. Kilmer has appeared in more than 50 films including “Top Gun,” “The Doors,” “Willow,” “Thunderheart,”and“Batman Forever.”
Board President Bill Connor notes, “We are thrilled to have Mr. Kilmer as part of the 2011 White Sands International Film Festival. His enthusiasm when told about the award in turns makes us so excited to have him here as a part of our growing event.”
The WSIFF will also feature a slate of workshops including “The Exploding One-Liner” with Mark Medoff, “How to Make a Movie” with David Derks, Ginger Perkins and Bill Immerman, and “Filmmaking in Southern New Mexico” with Bill McCamey, Rod McCall and Mark Medoff.
The White Sands International Film Festival, in its 6th year, brings together films from around the world to showcase the skills and talents of amateur and professional filmmakers alike. The festival is a 4 day event running August 25-28, 2011 with film screenings, workshops and VIP parties in the friendly city of Las Cruces, NM.
